Because we are a community within a community, AYI has taken on the challenge of addressing the barriers to enhancing sustainable health, education, development and civic and economic engagement of young people through direct engagement with youth, stakeholders from civil society, Government, religious and cultural institutions. We have made remarkable achievements in our target communities, and defining a long-term vision of sustainability.
Our mission is to provide a platform where young people and their communities can share skills, participate in promoting human rights awareness while exploring innate abilities towards lasting development on a foundation of equity. We believe in empowering young people’s access to information, services and rights such that they can build collective platforms to challenge and develop their leadership potential.
I hope you found something helpful or informative. All of us at AYI welcome your feedback and hope you will contact us if you need more information.
Active in Uganda, we’ve been connecting youth with the tools and resources to be healthy and productive.
We continue to be the premier youth organization working to enhance the contribution of youth in redefining their role in development, education, leadership, employment and in mainstreaming the youth agenda in Uganda.
Through schools, universities and community outreach programs, we do engage the youths and communities in development processes through empowering them with knowledge and fundamental principles of effective participation and creating engaged citizens through advocacy, information sharing and transformative education.
AYI's Brief History
Access Youth Initiative Uganda (AYI) is a national, non-partisan and non-profit Civil Society Organization registered in Uganda as a Non-Governmental Organization. AYI was founded in 2010 as an independent youth initiative with the overall mission to provide a platform where young people and their communities can share skills, participate in promoting human rights awareness while exploring innate abilities towards lasting development on a foundation of equity. It was conceived by a group of young people, then student leaders in Uganda’s public Universities, who during the formative days of reintroduced plural politics in Uganda were concerned about the status of the country’s democracy, social and economic development and the general wellbeing of young people in Uganda.
AYI has evolved into a premier youth organization, registering phenomenal growth in stature through fostering positive change by mobilizing youth consciousness and nurturing young ethical leadership across the Republic. Today, AYI has, to its credit, an increased youth consciousness through participation in critical development processes, enhanced visibility of young people occupying leadership positions in various sectors and the proliferation of youth led groups aimed at making a difference.
To provide a platform where young people and their communities can share skills, participate in promoting human rights awareness while exploring innate abilities towards lasting development on a foundation of equity.
The youth we serve today become tomorrow’s advocates and mentors creating social change, individually and collectively.
Young people are at the centre of our work. Locally, our youth-oriented campaigns and outreach initiatives are grounded in the belief that every young person’s contribution, no matter how small, deserves to be valued and honored.
